Darlyn Vlys-“Prince in the Rain-REMIXED”: Album Review

AFFKT’s Sincopat is one EDM label that places a high degree of emphasis on developing new songwriters, producers and DJs. France’s Darlyn Vlys happens to be one of those artists. His first exposure to electronic music stems from an education stay in Montpellier. Then taking off for Valencia, Spain a spike in his developmental timeline becomes evident as he starts making tech house music splashed with jazz and Latin percussion.

Not too long thereafter, John Digweed, Maceo Plex, Sasha, Loco Dice, Dubfire and Monika Kruse were spinning his music creations. Darlyn is also a busy and respected producer. His credits can be found on projects for labels such as Get Physical, Suara Music, Kling Kong, and Terminal among others.

Darlyn’s new release, “Prince in the Rain-REMIXED” features AFFKT, Chaim, Lauer, Third Son, Mattia Pompeo, HearThuG, Marc DePulse, YEUZ, Mundo D. & Roglar, Northern Lite, RARI, Haptic, and Kid Bucle. Track one, “Sun In Hell” featuring the German band Northern Lite and remixed by AFFKT, has great beats, dark and low-end bass pulses, and atmospheric guitar licks. “Tears in Rain” with Kid Bucle and remixed by Marc DePulse gets a spacey re-imagination, complimented with bottomed out, slightly distorted bass, frantic keyboard work and soft atmospheric layers. Third Son’s remix of “Paradoxal” featuring RARI is a blend of techno beats and glorious dreamy and bright electronica above soft angelic vocals. Next up is “Surface” featuring Haptic. HearThuG steps up for the remix duties and gives you plenty of kicks drums and hi-hat cymbal beats, lots of bounce, overlapping sub-melodies, and some killer special electronic effects. Techno beats, thumping bass, syncopated keys and crashes, rule the day on YEUX’s take on “Mustang.” Coming to the end, “Map to the Stars” remixed by Mattia Pompeo is a rolling track with reverb, echo and space on a sci-fi tip.  Closing up the album, “Decadencia” comes in majestically with heavy kick drums, driving rhythms and gorgeous layers of electronic keyboard work.

“Prince in the Rain-REMIXED” is an uplifting, diverse and dynamic soundtrack, transitioning back and forth from melodic house to indie dance to techno-disco and electronica, all the while keeping it engaging and interesting.
