Mikaël Delta: Placing Greece on the EDM Map

Greece has an Electronic Music scene that is booming thanks to Mikaël Delta. During the last decade Mikaël has become a household name internationally among his peers releasing music on labels in France, Belgium, Germany and the U.K.

He began his musical with the band Stereo Nova, which he co-founded, and right out the gate grabbed the attention of MTV Europe. In 1994, he released his first solo project entitled ‘The Picture’ on the Belgian Techno label R&S Records. Mikaël then went on record his second album, ‘Blue Emotions’ released on Glasgow Underground Records that went on to receive rave reviews from the British Music Press.

2001 marked the Distant Records release of ‘Halcyon Days’, making DJ Magazine’s Best Albums list and launching him as a top notch producer. He would record another album for the French label, ‘Vunerable’ featuring the hit single ‘I Am Not Keen’, recorded with German electro-diva Billy Ray Martin.

From 2003 to 2010, Mikaël released four full length albums— ‘Dancing With An Angel’, ‘Deep Inside’, ‘Timeless Beauty’ and ‘Tech Me Away’ for the Greek electronica label—Klik Records. In 2007, the Greek press declared his ‘Forbidden Poetry’ album on EMI Greece as his finest to date. Signing in 2011 to the German label, Young Society Records, Mikaël would release two EPs, ‘High Voltage’ and ‘Walking Naked.’ Keeping busy and continuing to produce and release music, Redondo and Jay Tripwire remixes Mikaël’s 12″single ‘For Those Who Have Been Chosen’ track  for the One Push Recordings label. Next up, the world famous Buddah Bar label would pick up his track ‘The Last Storm of Words’ for its 2013 compilation CD. Over the last two years, three more EPs were released. the first, ‘Save the Blues’ on Michalis Safras label—Tuna Recordings and followed by ‘Staunch Hearts’ on the British House label—Seamless Recordings and finally reuniting with Young Society Recordings for the release of ‘Emphasis.’

You’ll also find Mikaël’s remixes on labels such as Atal Music and Defected. Among the remixes is the memorable ‘Mikaël Delta’s Electronized Mix’ on Timewriter’s “Room Of A Million Rainbows” for Plastic City. Additionally, Mikaël has also composed music for film and theatrical performance, most notably for ‘Strella’, a production by Panos X. Koutras, which garnered acclaim from the international film festival community.

Mikaël Delta is now back with a new techno full length album entitled ‘Inner City Light’ on the Lithuania label Cold Tear Records. According to the press release, the album consists of 10 instrumental tracks, composed, arranged and recorded by Mikaël with analog synthesisers which have resulted to the mature sound effect of the final production. There are obvious references to the dub techno Berlin music scene with repetitive hypnotic riffs of minor & major chords which along with obsessive rhythms of drum patterns create an audio narration. One could say that ‘Inner City Light’ is a story of the urban landscapes of two cities, Athens and Berlin, set to music by the artist who is closely bound to them.
