Troels Hammer’s Latest LP ‘The/Human/Tree’ for MFD Out on July 21

Danish composer & pianist, Troels Hammer’s instrumental style fluctuates between between ambience and electronica, from lounge to the dancefloor. When Troels Hammer sits down at the piano, the music flows through him and captivates the audience with a style that is both relaxing and intense. He himself says that he creates music you can dip in and out of – or get carried away by. Intermediation has been the centre of Troels Hammer’s entire professional life and also musically he is driven to set the tone for stories and touch elements recognisable to the audience.

The album opener ‘Letters From Uhuru’ featuring Rodrigo Shah on saxophone really sets the tone magnificently for the album. With dream-like chords, soft piano melody and gentle sax, the track has a dark, yet melodic combination of classical composition and synths reminiscent of Vangelis’ Blade Runner score. ‘Botswana Girl,’ featuring the majestic voice of Åsne Valland Nordli, is the lead single from the album. The track carries the ambient, new age feel of the album in its production.

‘Mockingbird’ is an absolute balearic sunset classic. Kenneth Bager says it’s his most played track from the past 6 months in his sets at Hostal La Torre (Ibiza), Spiritland, (London), and Jockey Club (Ibiza). The track slowly builds and then the tribal rhythms of the bongos erupt with great aplomb. ‘Grindadráp’ features the vocal talents of Faroe islander Liv Næs. You are almost transported there with the cinematic soundscape and her dream-folky tones drifting you across the sea.

‘Theme From Ngong Hills’ showcases Troels’ exceptional talent for piano composition as his delicate chords, subtle pauses, combined with the cello, strips the track back to its classical elements. The tempo increases and the mood transcends from the cold of the north to the balmy Mediterranean air on ‘Sunrise At Beira Beach,’ which features the exceptional flamenco guitar playing from label mate Jacob Gurevitsch. Another sunset Balearic classic for sure! ’Fishing in Sahara’ is followed by the tropical beats of Thomas Schulz & Kenneth Bager on ’Waves Of Cape Town.’ Arriving at ‘Serengeti Nights’ things calm down down with Troels at the piano once more. Next up is the title track ‘The Human Tree’ featuring the voice of Mariana Sadovska and Jonas Krog on guitar. Soft pads, ambient synths, Spanish guitar transport you further afield.

Next up is ‘Mozambique,’ co-written & featuring the vocals of world-renowned artist Deva Premal. Her medidative, spiritual, new age mantra compliments the melodies and rhythms contained in the track that build layer upon layer with astonishing effect; A surefire modern classic in this genre. The track ‘Gold Coast’, a tribute to the West Coast of Africa, creates a beautiful audio landscape of birdsong mixed with xylophone, before the musical journey ends with one of Troels’ trademark piano compositions ’View of Wisdom’ and the dreamy ambience of ‘The Moon of Qulimane.’

Troels Hammer ‘The/Human/Tree’ is released by Music For Dreams on CD, digital and stream on Friday 21st July 2017.
